Maracas got a goal from three different players to whip Samaroo Village 3-1 to capture the Under-15 Division title when the fourth annual Juventus of St John Youth League hosted by its Over-40 division players concluded its League competition at Mt St Benedict Ground, St John’s Road, St Augustine on Saturday.
Going into the final round of matches, Maracas was second on the table with nine points, three behind Blast which only needed a draw in its final match with World Class to take the crown. However, World Class edged Blast 1-0 thanks to a strike from Lequan Caruth while Kwame Craig, Romario Rochord and Kaylon Alexander all netted for Maracas to cancel out Brandon Reyes’ item for Samaroo Village.
The results meant, all three teams ended their five-match campaign on 12 points, but based on its superior goal-difference of plus-nine Maracas emerged as champions ahead of Blast (plus-five) and World Class (plus-four). In the Under-13 Division, Blast was also on the losing end as a rampant Malabar YS stormed to a 10-0 triumph in their final led by a beaver-trick from Renaldo Francois.
Christian Montrose and Akeem Hosten added two goals each for the winners while Trey Lamotte and Kishon Hackshaw chipped in with one each. Earlier on in the semifinals, Malabar spanked World Class 3-1 with Tyriq Alexander, Francois and Kenton James the scorers while Blast got the better of North East Stars, 2-0 on penalty-kicks after a 2-2 draw in regulation-time.
Blast FC had much better luck in the Under-11 category after it blanked Titans ‘A’ 3-0 in a virtual title-decider with Trevis Byron scoring two, and Dwight Yorke, the other.
With the won, Blast FC which started the day in third spot ended its seven-match schedule with 18 points, one more than Titans “B” which also won 3-0 over Gairy John while Titans ‘A’ slipped to third. The tournament concludes on December 1 with the knockout competition and presentation of awards.
