Strangevillage football club will come up against Diamond Scaffolding in the finals of the Barrackpore Sports Association football tournament at Carrat Hill this coming Saturday.
In the semi-finals Strangevillage got the better of Lower Barrackpore Angels 2-0 to book their place in the finals. Strangevillage dominated the game although Lower Barrackpore had the home support.
The other semi-finals between Diamond and Madingo prove very competitive indeed and it took two games that went into extra time to separate the teams.
In their first attempt Diamond Scaffolding and Madingo battled to a 2-2 draw in the regulation tiime. A further period of extra time did not produce a winner to they went to penalty kicks.
Even in the penalty kicks they were locked at 7-7 when the lighting at the venue, which is controlled by a timer went off. The committee met and decided that it would not be fair to select the winner by the toss of a coin and they decided to replay the game last Wednesday.
A very big crowd gathered for the re-match and enjoyed a thrilling contest. Madingo took the lead in as early as the second minute much to the delight of their travelling fans.
However, Diamond came back strongly with two goals in the space of five minutes to take the lead. With minutes to go before the final whistle, Madingo levelled and forced the game into extra-time.
Diamond then showed they were the fitter team, as they got items from Anthony Parris and Atiba McKnight to take the game 2-0 at the end of extra-time.
Meanwhile, in the league tournament Diamond continued their march in search of double honours as they defeated Unknown 4-0 in the quarter-finals.
