Aaron Lester scored two goals as Caledonia Reserves continued their impressive run in the Santa Cruz Football Cup with a 7-1 hammering of Real Pipiol in their round-of-16 league encounter at the Brian Lara Recreation Ground, Sam Boucaud, Lower Santa Cruz on Thursday.
The quintet of Julian Wade, Michael Yawdarko, Jameel Boatswain, Marcus Ambrose and Keron Bethelmy chipped in with one each for Caledonia while Adam Ruben got Real Pipiol’s lone item.
Also advancing to the last-eight were Cantaro United and Front Line in contrasting fashion.
Cantaro led by a double from Andell Andrews and one each from Enrique Lezama and Matthew Woods whipped Valencia United 4-1.
Front Line, meanwhile, survived a 3-3 battle with San Juan Youths to advance on penalty-kicks.
In regulation time, national Under-20 striker Brent Sam, the brother of former England-based T&T international Hector Sam scored a pair for San Juan Youths and O Jarvis, the other while Marcus Joseph (two) and Marvin Joseph, got Front Line replies, before the latter prevailed in the penalty kicks shoot-out.
The trio joined defending champions Bcekles Environmental River Plate, former champions Police, Sam Boucaud, Pipiol and newcomers’ D 14 FC in the quarterfinals, all in the hunt for the $20,000 winners’ cheque.
The runner-up will get $10,000, third $5,000 and fourth, $3,000.
Today (Monday), the league competition takes a break for the kick-off of the Unipet-sponsored Garfield De Silva Knockout Cup, featuring a first prize of $10,000 and $3,000 for second.
In the opener, San Juan San Juan faces Nazarene from 4.15pm. Other tournament sponsors include Ricky Ragoonanan Group of Companies, Beckles Environmental and Monteco Creations.
