Jordan Trace CRIL notched their second win of the season in the 2014 Lendore Village Football League when they secured a narrow 2-1 victory over Edinburgh 500 on Saturday.

In the first game of a double header at the Chrissie Terrace Recreation Ground in Enterprise,  Jordan Trace took the lead in the 14th minute when striker Kyle David got between custodian Anthony Alert and a defender, who were both indecisive, to tap a loose ball home.

David should have made it 2-0 in the 20th minute when he received a through ball from midfielder David Maloney but in a one-on-one with Alert he placed his shot straight into the goalkeeper’s arms.

Edinburgh’s Husani Thomas was denied in the 37th minute when Jordan Trace’s custodian Jevon Archibald would react quickly to punch away his curling free-kick. It was 2-0 in the 43rd minute when Jevon Matthew picked up a pass just on the edge of the 18-metre box. He skilfully rounded the advancing Alert and a defender to slot the ball into an open goal.

Edinburgh would score a consolation item via a 77th minute penalty after Shaheed John was upended by fullback Ian Simon. Thomas would step up and bury the spot kick to the left of Archibald.

Valencia United won for the second time in the space of seven days by registering a 4-2 win in their match-up with 1st Engineering Battalion.

Calvin Lopez opened the scoring in the 6th minute of the match but two quick-fire goals in the 18th and 19th minutes would see the regiment outfit snatch the advantage. Dwight Scott orchestrated the first when he picked up the ball about 25 metres from goal and drew three defenders to him before squaring off to Gerrard DeVerteuil, who easily beat Valencia’s custodian Kevon Saunders.

The celebrations by 1st Engineering supporters had not died completely when Saunders had to collect the ball from the back of his net again. Steve Benny would hit a firm left-footed drive from a 25-metre free kick that took a deflection off a defender, sending Saunders the wrong direction.

But the eastern outfit reply was not long in coming as Shondell Jack would beat goalkeeper Keston Guy in the 25th minute after receiving  a cross from Lopez on the right flank.

Valencia’s third item came as a result of good thinking by in-from striker Kendis Garcia. He received a looping pass from deep in the second third of the field in the 52nd minute and with a defender breathing down his back he allowed the ball to bounce over his shoulder before quickly rolling around his marker to pick up and ball and slot it home.

Substitute Joel Charles completed the scoring with the easiest of opportunities in the 68th minute. Guy left his line to collect a cross from deep on the left side of the field and failed to do so, leaving Charles to place the ball at the back of the unguarded net.

And Hard Knocks FC run of four consecutive victories was brought to an end when they were held to a 2-2 stalemate by West Wood Strikers. Kefin Blackford notched a double for West Wood while Jamal Lucas and Hector Sam were on target for Hard Knocks.
