FOOTBALL clubs interested in competing in the annual Caribbean Welders Fishing Pond 9-a-side Football League are reminded that the deadline for registration is June 14.
Action gets underway on June 21 with an exhibition game at the Fishing Pond Recreation Ground featuring one of the top local teams against last year’s winners Dream Team.
This year the first prize has been upped to a whopping $40,000 and a challenge trophy. The losing finalist will receive $8,000 and a challenge trophy while the third and fourth-placed teams get $5,000 and $4,000 respectively plus a trophy.
There will be added incentives for the league with prizes going to the MVP, Most Disciplined Team, Best Goalkeeper, First Hat-trick, Most Goals (Player), Most Goals (Team), Best Defender, Best Goal and Best Manager.
The registration fee is $2,500 per team which includes 13 players. Interested persons are asked to call organiser Prakash Ramkissoon at 399-8151 to register.
Last year, Dream Team stunned 2013 winner Boys Town on kicks from the penalty spot to win the $30,000 prize in a pulsating final. Ramkissoon is predicting an even more exciting competition with the increased stakes on offer.
“Everything is going to be bigger and better with teams playing for forty thousand dollars instead,” he declared.
