Twenty-seven teams competed recently at the ninth edition of the San Fernando Future Football Stars tournament held at Skinner Park, San Fernando.

The 15 and under age group was won by the Jean Lillywhite team which won all five of their games to capture the top prize. In second place was Club Sando while San Fernando Sports placed third.

The 12 and under age group saw San Fernando Sports Academy come out on top by winning all their games without conceding a goal. San Fernando ‘B’ team came second while Ralph Coaching School placed third.

In the 10 and under category, Fyzabad United FC displayed some brilliant attacking and clever defending to top the division. Trendsetters Hawks and San Fernando Sports Academy placed second and third respectively.

The eight and under group was topped by Trendsetter Hawks with San Fernando Sports and Fyzabad United Football following respectively. The six and under division was claimed by Trendsetter Hawks ahead of San Fernando Sports Academy and Fyzabad United Football in that order.

The tournament was a quite an exciting one with all players receiving medals for participation. The stands at Skinner Park were full with parents, supporters and children cheering on their favourite teams. Other competing teams included Marabella Family Crisis, Spitfire SA International, Jah Football Club and Plesantville Patriots.

Preston Nanan, Technical Director or organisers, San Fernando Sports Academy, was pleased by how the tournament was run as it gave children the chance not only to play football but make friends. He said all the children were made to feel like winners as they were given goal medals of participation and football bands. Twenty-seven outstanding players were given trophies as well.

Organisers expressed thanks to the Ministry of Sports, Sport Company of Trinidad and Tobago, Millage Mack Ltd, Kee Chanona Ltd, the Community Security Programme and the parents of San Fernando Sports Academy who helped make the day enjoyable for all.
