GLENSDALE Football Club which was founded in 1956, in the Upper Malabar area of Arima unveiled the latest version of its famous wine and gold football kit, at the club’s much anticipated second annual “walking football match” staged at the “George Boyce Recreation Ground”, Mausica , on Sunday April 13th, 2014.
The new Wine dominated jersey replaces the gold dominated top used over the last few years.
For the novelty event, teams of 12 players each comprising a minimum four females, participated in a 60-minute- a match tournament where the basic rules of the tourney ensured that men must walk for the entire matches while ladies were allowed to run.
Goalkeepers were only allowed to run once they were within the six yards box for the competition. But in spite of all the excitement the match failed to produced any large scoreline and ended one all. After the match a number of the female players called for the novelty initiative be played more often across the country.
The Glensdale football club has campaigned successfully for many years in the Arima Football League (AFL), winning the Diamond Jubilee League Trophy and the AFL FA Trophy on several occasions. They also represented AFL in the national Knock Out against Paragon and Police. Apart from football the club also achieved much successes in the Arima Cricket League.
