The Guinness Street Football Challenge, the Caribbean’s biggest and best street football tournament, has made its return.

This will be its fifth year, and it has been run throughout the Caribbean with much success. The Trinidad and Tobago leg will kick off Saturday at Skinner Park, San Fernando, from 5 p.m.

“The Guinness Street Football Challenge is the Caribbean’s premier street football tournament and in true Guinness style, our consumers will play for the pride of their community and the pride of their country,” said Melicia Wilson-Aquing, Guinness Country Manager for Trinidad & Tobago.

“This tournament represents a fusion of the passion for football and entertainment at the grassroots level and we’re excited about seeing how our consumers show they are ‘Made of More’.”

This year’s tournament will run every Saturday in May at four locations nationwide. The National Final will be held on June 13 with the top eight teams vying for first prize of $20,000 cash.

After a local champion has been crowned, the winning team will qualify to face the best of the Caribbean for a showdown on June 27 and 28 in Kingston, Jamaica that will determine the regional Guinness Street Football Challenge Champion.

The Grand Caribbean Championship was held here last year, and "Team T&T" once again clinched the title, making it the third consecutive year that a Trinidad & Tobago team has won the coveted regional title.

Registration for local qualifying matches has already started, and interested persons can call 328-4277 to register their teams. All games commence at 5 p.m. and registration is only 24 Guinness crowns.
