Central FC midfielder Nathaniel Garcia was all smiles at the end of the inaugural T&T Football 7s Challenge last weekend at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port-of-Spain after leading his team Skillz that Killz to the title.
“I really enjoyed this tournament. It was a good opportunity for us the players to get together and play the sevens version of the game. You get to express yourself more and the game is very exciting,” Garcia said.
“For me personally, I am very happy to have played my part in the team’s success. We came together and really gave it our best. The competition was well organised and I think everyone enjoyed it. Maybe next time it will have more teams and can be bigger than this first time.”
He is expected to be shortlisted for selection on a T&T Sevens team to contest the Football 7 Worldwide Challenge in Barcelona in August. Some of the other notable names that took part in the Sevens Challenge were Lorne Joseph, Kevon Woodley, Noel Williams, Kishun Seecharan, Gary Glasgow, Hayden Tinto, Jayson Joseph, Jerwyn Balthazar and Chad Apoo among others.
Among the other teams already confirmed to participate are Vasco da Gama (Brazil), FF Marseille (France), Nacional (Uruguay), Sidekicks (Mexico), Fluminense (Brazil), Athletico LT (Northern Ireland), Global Style (Canada), Penarol (Uruguay), Juan Arango (Venezuela) and Miami City FC.
