The SIS Industrial Football League 2015 kicked off on Monday at the Plipdeco Grounds in the heart of the Point Lisas Industrial Estate. This year’s tournament showcases 12 industry-based teams.

The opening day saw simultaneous matches being played.

The first match saw PCS NITROGEN up against IPSL (MX), both teams proved to be evenly matched and although it was an exciting game with end to end action, after both 20-minute halves, the match ended in a 0-0 stalemate.

Sporting giants WASA matched up against an enthusiastic YARA outfit in the other opening-day fixture and the encounter proved to be the highlight of the day and the score-line reflected such.

YARA created numerous chances but were thwarted by WASA at every turn. Creative influence Jeron Quashie beat David John in goal for the WASA team from some considerable distance to put his team in the lead.

On the stroke of half time, Newell Redhead equalised for WASA after a period of sustained pressure.

Both teams searched for the equaliser when the match resumed as John fumbled another shot from Quashie into his own goal, to give the underdogs an unexpected lead.

WASA managed to equalise again from another effort from Redhead, and they went on to claw their way into the lead minutes from the end, when midfielder Renaldo Williams made no mistake with effort, sealing a dramatic come-from-behind win on the opening day.
