Following the success of her inaugural 3 vs 3 tournament for youth last year November, national women’s football captain, Maylee Attin Johnson recently hosted a second installment of the tournament at CIC Grounds, Woodbrook.

The tournament was hosted by The Attin Johnson Initiative, an organisational launched last year and which aims to act as an advocate of peace, unity and resilience through sport. Boys and girls teams ranging from Under- 9 to Under-13 participated in the one-day event, with participants coming from clubs from all around the country including Laventille, Las Lomas, South and even Tobago.

For TSTT’s Chief Marketing Officer, Camille Campbell, the event was very well organised and said the decision to partner once again was an easy one.

“blink|bmobile is happy to lend support to Maylee for her second tournament following a very successful maiden event,” said Campbell. “It’s always refreshing to see young people give back.

Maylee is helping to lay the foundation for other future stars like herself to make a positive impact through sport and we applaud her for the initiative and wish her continued success.” Campbell said the tournament was in keeping with the blink | bmobile Foundation’s objectives of supporting youth and sport and therefore aligned well with the Foundation. The vocal midfielder was on hand to ensure everything went smoothly on the day and leaning on her experience of hosting the first event, was able to improve on this one.

“I must say it went really well.

I was blessed to be able to put on another successful event. The kids had an awesome time and that’s what it’s all about,” Maylee said. “Compared to the last time we were much more prepared, much more organised and we had the help we needed from our volunteers (UWI students). We can only get better going forward.” She also thanked blink|bmobile who once again partnered with her on the event and contributed prizes to the Under-16 and Girls Under-17 MVPs.

“I can’t thank the blink|bmobile Foundation enough for their tremendous support especially in this recession time. They came up big time and it wouldn’t have been possible without their contribution and support. I sincerely thank them for supporting my initiative but most importantly for investing in the future of TT.” The 3 vs 3 format allows for participants to be highly active and engaged in the short time they spend in each match and national coach Stephen Hart, who came out to support the initiative, was in high praise of it.

“Any event that promotes football and promotes football with very young participants is a positive thing. It means a lot to the public, it means a lot to young people and here we have both male and female playing alongside each other freely,” said Hart.

“It’s quite impressive to watch and it’s a game where it’s only three on three so there are a lot of touches on the ball, a lot of involvement, so everybody gets a chance to be the player so to speak.”
