The T&T Football Sevens Open tournament will come to a climax tonight when the final takes place between The Trace and Mentor Alley at the Sogren Trace Grounds, Laventille Road, from 7.30 p.m. Laventille United and Crecent will meet in the third-place match from 6.30 p.m.

After 12 days of doubleheaders over the past month, these two teams advanced to the final following wins in their respective semi-final matches on Wednesday. The other competing teams included Troumacaque, Gonzales, Brooklyn, Despers, Sogren Trace and St Barbs.

Mentor Alley overcame Crecent 5-3 on penalties after both teams played to a 2-2 draw in the 40-­minute regulation time match. Glen Walker and Levi Serres were the goalscorers for Crecent while Kareem Baptiste and Dillon Baptiste were on target for Mentor ­Alley.

In the other semi-­final encounter, Miscel­laneous Laventille United and The Trace battled to a 3-3 draw before The Trace prevailed 5-3 on penalties. Joel Raymond netted once while Lyndon Ferguson scored a brace for Laventille United. Meanwhile, Jamel ­Bailey, Kerron Brenon and Deon Caprieta each scored for The Trace during regulation time.

The winners will take home $3,000, plus a trophy and medals, with the runner-up ­taking away $2,000 plus a ­trophy and medals. The “Most Disciplined” team will receive $1,000 and a trophy with the “MVP” and Golden Boot ­winner receiving $500 and a trophy each.

Former national team captain Russell Latapy will be on hand to meet the teams before kick-off. The tournament was put on by the T&T Football 7 Association and the Miscellaneous Group.
