RSSR receives Reach For Stars $$$

RSSR, named af­ter lo­cal foot­ball icons Rus­sell Tesheira, Sel­ris Fi­garo, Reynold George and Sam Llewellyn, by its founders Ruthven Charles and Dex­ter Har­ris, caters for the sport­ing needs of young men and women in the John John, Beetham and sur­round­ing com­mu­ni­ties in POS.

It hand­ed out to­kens to a num­ber of in­flu­en­tial per­sons in its 20-year his­to­ry at its an­niver­sary cer­e­mo­ny at the Pres­i­dent's Booth of the Queen's Park Oval, and Karen Nunez-Tesheira, wid­ow of Rus­sell Tesheira who set-up the foun­da­tion, had promised she would help the club.

Nunez-Tesheira, who is al­so a for­mer Min­is­ter of Fi­nance for the PNM Gov­ern­ment, ho­n­oured her com­mit­ment by pre­sent­ing a cheque for $10,000 to the Acad­e­my to ho­n­our the unswerv­ing gen­eros­i­ty of her late hus­band. Tesheira (Rus­sell) died in 2004 af­ter a med­ical pro­ce­dure went wrong. He was a for­mer na­tion­al foot­ball cap­tain.

In mak­ing the pre­sen­ta­tion Nunez-Tesheira said her hus­band rel­ished his work in these com­mu­ni­ties and would have been very proud that the Acad­e­my has sur­vived and, in fact, is striv­ing af­ter 20 years.

The cheque was re­ceived by Ruthven Charles, founder and pres­i­dent, and Dex­ter Har­ris, co-founder and vice pres­i­dent, of the RSSR Acad­e­my.

Af­ter­wards, Charles as­sured Nunez-Tesheira her hus­band's mem­o­ry is in­deli­ble in the com­mu­ni­ty of which he was a part. He fur­ther as­sured that the funds would be ploughed in­to the acad­e­my's ex­ten­sive work be­ing un­der­tak­en with its Un­der-15s, u-20s, North Zone and Su­per League teams.
