THE opening of the 2019 RBC/West Penn Community Youth Football League will take place at the Patna River Estate Ground in Diego Martin from 2 pm, today.
The tournament is geared towards creating peace and development among young people in TT.
A RBC/West Penn team is expected to play against specially invited teams as part of the opening. When the tournament begins on June 2, players will compete in the boys senior Under-20, girls senior Under-19 and boys junior Under-17 categories.
Some of the teams lining up in the boys senior Under-20 category are Trincity Nationals FC, North Coast FC, Patna River Estate FC and Gasparillo Youth FC. The women's Under-20 category will include Success Laventille FC, Barataria Majestic Youths FC and East Port of Spain Trendsetter Hawks FC.
Vying for the title in the boys Under-17 are Santa Cruz FC, Carenage Samba FC and Point Cumana Untouchables FC.
One of the main goals of the tournament is to encourage youngsters to focus on their school work as RBC will give a $10,000 education scholarship. The scholarship will be someone who was successful in CSEC examinations, while being one of the top players in the league.
