Santos FC scored an unimpressive 2-1 win over a plucky Dingle Boys side at the Eddie Hart Savannah (EHS) to top Group Two on Wednesday night, while MAASH Internationals secured second spot in the group to advance to the Big-Eight competition of the Eddie Hart Football League when they trounced South Eastern Connections 4-1 at the same venue last Tuesday night.
Santos, who were coming off two 5-0 triumphs over Parliament FC and MAASH Internationals and a 3-0 win over 1TTR ENG BN in that order, looked flat but still did enough to secure the win to take them to 18 points and top spot in Group Two.
The 2007 champions Santos got their items from Kerey Harris, who scored a double. Kevin Roach provided the item for Dingle Boys.
On Sunday 1, Samba Boys beat ITTR 3-0 to book their passage to the last eight. They finished with 21 points overall, but six of them will be deducted for not marching on the opening day of the season. Anton Quashie netted twice, while Quami Knights and Marlon Weekes were responsible for the other strikes.
Samba Boys eventually ended with 15 points which was good enough to give them one of the two best third place spots up for grabs.
On Tuesday night, MAASH needed a victory in their last game to claim second berth ahead of North Hill (15 points) and they did so but in unconvincing fashion.
Coming off a shocking 1-0 defeat to lowly Petit Bourg Youths last week, MAASH never looked in total control throughout the match and the final scoreline was not a true indication of the contribution made by South Eastern Connections to the contest.
Skipper Stevon Stoute opened the scoring for MAASH before Neil Mitchell grabbed the equaliser for   South Eastern in the second half to keep the pressure on MAASH to secure the three points.
Despite their effort however, fifth-place South Eastern were unable to find the back of the net again.
Ellis Dyatt, Kevin Mc Collin and Mark Throne added second half goals for MAASH to seal the points.
Five-time champions Parliament concluded a poor season in the league with a 2-1 win over Petit Bourg Youths. Alvin Beharry scored a penalty and Shervon Noriega had the other item for the 2008 champs.
Here are the qualifiers for the Big Eight: Group One - Arsenal, Arouca Hustlers and Pacemakers ; Group Two - Santos FC and MAASH; Group Three - Bon Air FC, Samba Boys and Paradise FC.
