Three days after taking its first league lead of the season, WASA FC dropped to a 3-0 defeat to previously bottom-placed Defence Force, in a rescheduled blink/bmobile National Super League (NSL) fixture, at the Youth Camp, Chaguaramas, on Wednesday.
Defence Force opened on the hour mark from a Kareem Charles strike, before the victory was the secured by a brace from Jamal Goodridge in the 73rd and 79th minutes.
The win put Defence Force tied with two other teams (FC Santa Rosa and Siparia Spurs) in ninth position, while WASA remained on top with a one point advantage over 2011 treble winner, bmobile Joe Public.
The top two teams have both played 11 matches, while Westside Superstars, which sits in third has played one match less and only trails WASA by two points.
In another rescheduled fixture, two mid-table teams Real Maracas and Club Sando played to a 1-1 stalemate at the Maracas Recreation Ground, St Joseph.
The away team Club Sando took the lead in the 57th minute through Jason Boodram, less than a quarter of an hour before Aaron Peters tied the match up, as both teams settled for a point.
Round One action in the knockout competition will kick off Sunday, with four matches in the preliminary stage, featuring the league’s three promoted teams and the five weakest teams in last season’s competition.
All matches are set to kick off at 4 pm. The four teams to advance, will meet the top four finishers in last year’s league competition, in the quarter-final on the following Sunday.
Reigning knock-out champions bmobile Joe Public will play its first match in the quarterfinal when it takes on the winner of the Sunday’s preliminary match between Real Maracas and newly promoted FC Santa Rosa.
