Jamal Lewis snatched a goal in the 89th minute to salvage a point for champion bmobile Joe Public, as the “Eastern Lions” recorded another draw, 1-1 with newly-promoted FC Santa Rosa, in the blink/bmobile National Super League (NSL), at UTT, O’Meara, on Sunday.
Lewis scored from just outside the penalty area from a freekick in the dying moments to put Joe Public back on top, joint with Westside Superstarz, and WASA FC. Jovan Rochford scored in the 34th minute, from the penalty spot to give Santa Rosa the lead.
It was Joe Public’s seventh draw of the campaign, and second againt Santa Rosa this season. The setting was similar in the first leg, when Rochford scored Santa Rosa’s only goal of the match, before Andre Toussaint netted the equaliser in the last minute of play.
A win for Joe Public would have given the club a clear lead at the top, as WASA had its match against Eagles postponed due to a shortage of officials, while Westside Superstarz suffered its worst defeat of the season, 5-0, away to knockout champions Stokely Vale.
Westside had two players, Kareem Young and Kevon Piper, who got into a heated argument on the pitch, red carded and ejected, minutes before the halftime whistle.
Rundel Winchester and Onasi Forde, scored a brace each with Trevonne James adding the other. Westside had, only four days prior, scored two late goals to take full points, in a 4-3 victory over Real Maracas.
Real Marcas, however, recovered on Sunday to defeat Tobago visitors 1976 FC Phoenix 2-1.
