GUAYA UNITED spanked Malabar FC 4-2 in a Third Round fixture on Sunday at the Guaya Recreation Ground to stay top of the points standings in the 2013 National Super League Qualifying Competition.

Guaya remain the only team in the six-team event with a 100-percent record.

The hosts got a pair of goals from ex-Trinidad and Tobago midfielder Ryan Stewart, who netted in the 50th and 56th minutes, while Carlon Hughes (54th) and Leroy Jones (62nd) got the other items. For Malabar Norrel George scored twice, in the 58th and 74th.

In a clash of the cellar-placed outfits, Point Fortin Civic Centre moved from the foot of the table after a 4-1 trouncing of St Francois Nationals at the Diego Martin Junior Secondary School Ground.

A pair of Josephs — Stephen and Marcus, notched two early strikes for Point Fortin, in the 10th and 25th minutes.

Rafer Ross pulled one back for St Francois, in the 54th, but Point Fortin were not going to be denied, as Randell Richards (82nd) and Kester Cornwall (90th) guaranteed full points for the visitors.

And the two mid-table squads, Bethel United and Enterprise Youths, battled to a 1-1 draw at the Plymouth Recreation Ground.

Ryan Fredericks put Enterprise in front after 49 minutes but Dwayne Marcelle evened up the scores in the 74th.

Fourth Round action will be staged tomorrow with Guaya visiting Enterprise at Edinburgh 500 in Chaguanas from 5 pm.

Also on tomorrow’s agenda will be Point Fortin against Bethel at the Mahaica Oval in Point Fortin from 4 pm and Malabar will be hosting St Francois Nationals at the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) O’Meara campus, Arima from 6 pm.

The Fifth Round will take place on March 24. And the top two teams will progress to the 2013 National Super League.

Stewart fires Guaya to third qualifying win.

Team captain Ryan Stewart led his team, Guaya United to its third consecutive victory in the Champions of Champions, Super League qualifying competition, on Sunday evening, when he scored a match opening brace to open a 4-2 victory over Malabar FC, at the Guaya Recreation Ground.

Stewart, who has been on fine form for the club netted in the 50th and 56th minutes, with teammate Carlon Hughes on target for the team’s second in the 54th and Leroy rounding off Guaya’s attacking rout with an effort in the 62nd minute. Malabar, which suffered its first defeat in three outings had Norrel George find the target with a double (58th and 74th).

The win saw Guaya, the Eastern Counties league winner, shoot clear of Malabar on nine points, and almost assured a top-two finish as required for promotion into the Super League, T&T’s second tier football competition.

In other results, Southern Football Association’s (SFA) Point Fortin Civic Centre rebounded from two straight shock losses to upset NFA’s St Francois Nationals 4-1, at the Diego Martin North Secondary School ground. First half goals from Steven Joseph (10th) and Marcus Joseph (25th) and late items from Randell Richards (82th) and Kester Cornwall (90th) handed Pt Fortin the much needed three points.
 
St Francois, the host, got on the scoresheet in the 54th minute through former Pro League defender Rafer Ross. The rock-bottom St Francois succumbed to its third straight defeat, and will almost surely have to win its next three matches to stand a chance of qualifying.
