Former national youth striker Carlon Hughes scored a brace, while he took his tally to four goals for the season, when Guaya United extended its unbeaten run with a 2-1 win over Real Maracas in the blink/bmobile National Super League (NSL), at the Maracas Recreation Ground, St Joseph, on Thursday.

Hughes scored the match opener in the 36th for a lead which lasted seven minutes into the second period, before Marvin Manswell equalized for the host team. Hughes once again found the net in the 70th minute to give Guaya another lead and eventually the win. It was a fitting result for the newly promoted Eastern Counties league winner, which is in its inaugural season.

The result kept the team on top of the standings, along with Club Sando, which is on a similar unbeaten run of four wins and a draw from the opening five matches. Club Sando also left it relatively late but in the end got the better of Southern neighbour Siparia Spurs, courtesy of a Keith Williams winner in the 78th minute.

Williams has also been on fine form with his second match winner in three matches. Less than two weeks prior, Williams scored a goal in the same minute (78th) to secure a 2-1 win for his team over the 2011/2012 treble winner Joe Public.

The Eastern Lions—Joe Public—meanwhile, finally secured its first win in four attempts following a 4-2, come-from-behind win over traveling Tobago club Stokely Vale. The only other win on Thursday, came from Westside Superstarz, which had eyes on quickly returning to the top of the standings.

David Lendor bagged a 71st minute winner in a 1-0 win for Westside over the struggling defending champion WASA FC. Action will continue tomorrow with a full round of matches. Second placed Westside will host joint leader Club Sando, at St Anthony’s College Ground, Westmoorings, from 4 pm, in the feature match-up.
