Fresh off its first ever major title, the blink/bmobile National Super League knockout competition, Club Sando, will be seeking to maintain pole position today as league action resumes with a full round of matches, all of which kick off from 3.30 pm.
Club Sando, which leads the standings by one point over knockout finalist Guaya United, hosts defending champion WASA FC. WASA, two-time league winner has suffered this season with poor results, picking up just one win and five draws in 12 matches. The Waterboys sits just two points from the bottom, which is occupied by FC Santa Rosa.
While Club Sando faces a relatively easy opponent today, its nearest challenger Guaya United, which put up a fine challenge in a narrow 4-3 loss in its first appearance in a major final last weekend, takes on mid-table Joe Public. Only two season ago, Joe Public captured a NSL treble, but has since gone on a decline.
The Eastern Lions have also started the season poorly, but has found its way into seventh spot in the 13-team standings with fours wins and as many draws and losses. The two teams will meet at the Guayaguayare Recreation Ground.
The third serious challenger is this year’s league competition is Malabar FC, a team which its third, only two points behind Club Sando, with 27 points. Malabar will be keen to pick up all three points when it faces lowly FC Santa Rosa, at the Arima Velodrome. Santa Rosa, has also picked up just one win this season, while salvaging three draws.
