Devon Modeste scored a goal in each half as Club Sando trounced Defence Force 3-0 in their top-of-the-table Group A “Big Eight” to inch to within a point of T&T Football Association National Super League crown on Wednesday.

Going into the encounter at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva, Club Sando (nine points) held a two point lead over the “Teteron Boys”, and Siparia Spurs. However, Modeste and his team-mates were eager to add to that margin and he netted in the 34th for a 1-0 half-time lead while Atiba Mc Knight doubled the advantage to 2-0 in the 71st before Modeste added another in the 76th.

Club Sando now as 12 points from four matches, still two more than neighbours Siparia Spurs which it faces in a winner-take-all clash on Sunday at at Couva from 6pm in the final round of Group A matches.

Siparia kept its chance of overhauling Club Sando at the top via its 2-0 defeat of Guaya United at the Fyzabad Recreation Ground with goals from Jesse Edwards, in the 31st and Chris Collins on the stroke of half-time.

Tobago 1976 FC Phoenix slipped past former champions WASA which ended the contest with ten men, 2-1 at Caanan Ground, Bon Accord.

Steffan Hector fired Phoenix ahead in the 27th and Lejandro Williams made it 2-0 two minutes after the restart while Ethan Robinson conjured up a last minute consolation for WASA after team-mates Julien Garcia and Dorian Daniel were both shown red cards. And at at UTT Ground, O’Meara Road, Arima, visitors Petrotrin Palo Seco whipped La Horquetta 3-1.

In the the Group B “Relegation Big -Six” battle, FC Santa Rosa and Las Lomas are level at the top of the standing with six points each, two more than Goal City with their matches set to restart on January 11.
