A BRACE from Shackiel Henry gave Petrotrin Palo Seco an opening round victory in the National Super League Premiership Division against Marabella Family Crisis Centre at the Palo Seco Velodrome, on Sunday.

Henry netted his first goal in the ninth minute, then found the back of the net in the 46th minute as Petrotrin lie at the top of the standings on goal difference.

Club Sando Moruga, Guaya United FC, Matura ReUnited, Police FC and Siparia Spurs all recorded narrow victories in the opening round.

Jason Boodram scored in the 47th minute to lead Police To a 1-0 win over Bethel United at the Mt Gomery Recreation Ground in Tobago, while Chris Collins found the net in the 43rd minute to guide Siparia Spurs to a 1-0 win over Queen’s Park at Irwin Park in Siparia.

Recording 2-1 wins were Matura ReUnited and Guaya United.

Matura came from behind to defeat defending champions Defence Force at the latter’s headquarters in Chaguaramas as Brendan Figuera (29th) and Kerin Vincent (83rd) cancelled out Jahvon Neptune’s 17th minute strike for Defence Force. Guaya also came from behind after Aaron Peters gave Real Maracas the lead in the 31st minute.

Carlon Hughes equalised in the 40th minute before Jody Allsop scored the winner for Guaya in the 58th at the New Lands Ground in Guaya.

The goals were flowing at the WASA Ground in St Joseph, as visiters Club Sando Moruga prevailed with a 3-2 win over WASA FC.

Club Sando got goals from Nigel John (sixth), Donrick Mascall (28th) and Jesse Edwards (39th), while Nathan Julien (21st) and Akil Thomas (53rd) found the back of the net for WASA.

In the other opening round fixture, Sports and Games F.C Santa Rosa and 1976 FC Phoenix played to a 0-0 stalemate at the Canaan Recreation Ground in Tobago.
