PETROTRIN SC got back to winning ways in the Southern Football Association's Super League competition when they defeated Ocean View Samba Youths 2-1 last Wednesday.
After playing to a draw and a loss, followed by another draw in their three second round matches to date, the oilmen desperately needed to win to regain the top spot from Point Fortin Civic Centre, who had gone top via a 1-0 win over Barrackpore United.
And Cordell Greenidge delivered the goods by notching both items to ensure they collected full points, with Darren Ashford scoring a consolation strike for Samba Youths.
Police also came up with an important win to maintain the pressure on the top two teams when Junior Valley, Anslem Coa and Sean Rosal all found the back of the net to orchestrate a 3-1 trashing of Bewil Esperanto Penal All Stars.
Roger Garcia scored for the resurgent All Stars, who had their three-game winning streak broken by that defeat.
In two other matches contested, Palo Seco SC beat Ste Madeleine Strikers 2-1, thanks to an own goal by the luckless Strikers, to register their second consecutive victory, and Barrackpore United threw away a golden opportunity of picking up a win when they conceded an own goal to share a 1-1 stalemate with Kris Marketing X-Men.
In other games last week, Penal All Stars hammered Strikers 6-0, with Tony Nelson and Roger Garcia both scoring double strikes while Sheldon Benn and Shay Sutherland added one goal apiece; Point Fortin Civic Centre gained a 1-0 win over Barrackpore United via an Anslem Belfast item; Keron Joseph's solitary strike gave Palo Seco SC a similar result over Rangers FC; and Police SC and Petrotrin SC played to a 1-all draw, with Sean Rosal obliging for the lawmen and Ako James replying for Petrotrin.
