Joe Public FC kept their slim lead in the National Super League qualification standings when they eked out a 2-1 victory over Club Sando on Saturday at the St Augustine Secondary Comprehensive ground.
A 79th minute item by Marlon Yearwood settled the issue for Joe Public and places them on seven points from three matches, as they remain the only unbeaten side in the competition.
Joe Public went ahead through a sixth minute own goal by Club Sando's Leason Quashie and took their 1-0 lead to the break. But three minutes after the resumption, the South-based side drew level, Jason Boodram finding the net. Yearwood, though, ensured three points for Joe Public 11 minutes from time.
Also on Saturday at Frederick Settlement, Caroni, Carenage United edged Tai Sui Products Strikers 2-1 to remain third behind Stokely Vale.
Stokely Vale needed a goal in the 89th minute to beat cellar-placed Matura Reunited 4-3. Matura are currently pointless after the three fixtures.
The series continues tomorrow, with Carenage United taking on Club Sando at the St James Barracks, while Strikers and Stokely Vale battle it out at Frederick Settlement.
Matura Reunited will also be tested when they host Joe Public at the Matura Recreation Ground.
