DEFENDING Bmobile National Super League champions WASA FC extended their lead at the top of the standings to four points with an 8-2 mauling of UTT yesterday.

Michael-Lee Celestine was the star of the show for WASA scoring a beaver- trick to help boost his team’s goal-difference if needed at the end of the season.

With four rounds remaining WASA have 43 points from 20 games. Jesse Reyes opened the scoring in the fourth minute and Alvris Faura made it 2-0 just five minutes later.

UTT’s Brenton Bain found the back of the net in the 28th to stem the flow of goals but the floodgates were soon to open as Celestine scored the first of his four goals in the 35th. Mervyn Brooks added his quota in the 37th and Celestine got his second five minutes before the interval.

WASA maintained the pressure in the second half, and Celestine again breached the defence to score his third in the 50th, and completed his feat eight minutes later while Douglas McNeilly scored in the 87th. Bain got a second goal for the University men, this season’s whipping boys, in the 82nd.

Meanwhile, the National Under-20 team kept pace with WASA with a come- from-behind 3-1 victory over Economy Strikers at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Dr Joao Havelange Centre of Excellence, Macoya, Tunapuna.

Jean-Luc Rochford knotted up the scores in the 56th and Nathan Homer put the Under-20s ahead in the 78th. And with the ‘Grande’ team pushing forward seeking a equaliser, Eacian Jonas sealed the victory for the Under-20s in the 82nd minute.
