T&TEC started the second round of the bmobile National Super League on a winning note, and moved to within four points of leaders Joe Public.
The beaten finalist of the 2009 bmobile National Super League knockout competition, came from a goal down to defeat WASA in a battle of the utility companies, in the first match of a double header at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella yesterday.
The water company took an early 1-0 advantage as Michael Lee Celestine found the net in the 2nd minute of play. WASA took the lead into the half, however, the electricity boys would draw level in the 76th minute with a strike from their inform striker Brenton De Leon. And with a minute left in regulation time, they got the winner, as Joel Bailey converted from the penalty spot. T&TEC has now won nine of their 13 matches, and stand on 27 points.
In the second match, a double from Leandro Williams helped 1976 Phoenix FC blanked Club Sando 2-0. Williams scored both goals in the first half, opening his account in the 2nd minute and closing off in the 32nd minute. Meanwhile the 2009 knockout champs Economy Strikers failed to carry on from their win over T&TEC in the final, and were held to a 2-2 draw by the Defence Force in their match at the Sangre Grande Recreation Ground.
Akil Pierre put the Army ahead with a strike in the 10th minute, before Liston Billy, the MVP of the knockout final, level things for the home team in the 23rd minute. Leroy Jones then gave Strikers their second item as he found the net in the 36th minute 2-1, in favour of the Grande team. They would hold the lead until the 69th minute, before Shermon Phillips found the equalizer for the soldiers. The match between Harlem Strikers and Carenage United was not played due to transportation problems encountered by Carenage.
