Dwight Crichlow scored a double as debutantes Valtrin shocked defending champions bmobile Joe Public 4-3 in Match Day 13 of the bmobile National Super League at the Marvin Lee Stadium, yesterday.

This marked the second upset win for Valtrin over the “Eastern Lions” who were eliminated 1-0 in the knock-out tournament. This is just the start to the second round that the Valsayn team needed, after only winning two matches in the first round.

The team went on a Cinderella run in the knock-out tournament, claiming three upset wins, before being pulled back to earth by T&TEC in the final.

It was the defending champions who opened the scoring, as Keston Henry found the net after just 11 minutes to give his team a 1-0 lead.

Twenty-four minutes later Valtrin drew level off the boot of Real Dedier and the scoreline remained 1-1 at the half.

Two minutes into the second half Public got an early Christmas gift from Kevon Blackman, as the visiting player unfortunately slotted in an own goal to give the hosts a 2-1 lead.

Crichlow, however, netted the first of his two goals from the penalty spot in the 71st minute to level the score 2-2. Two minutes later he gave his team a 2-3 lead, before Nathan Lewis made it 2-4 in the 79th minute.

The Macoya-based team was able to get a third in the 83rd from Keston Jordan; however, they could not find the equaliser.

The “Eastern Lions” who have suffered their second defeat in the league, remain in third on 19 points from their 11 matches, while Valtrin remains second from the bottom on nine points from 11 matches.

WASA was not able to cut into T&TEC’s four-point lead at the top of the standings, as their match with hosts Stokely Vale at the Plymouth Recreation ground in the sister isle, did not play as the teams were decked in matching colours.

The matter will now be sent to the disciplinary committee to decide who was at fault.
