Dominique Kerr scored the lone goal as 1976 Angostura Phoenix condemned Queen’s Park to relegation from the bmobile National Super League with a 1-0 win at Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, on Wednesday.
The Parkites in their second year of competing in the league, needed a win to have any chance of surviving the drop. However, with seven minutes left in the match, Kerr netted to hand Phoenix and hopes of a second-place finish alive.
Phoenix now has 33 points and a match left against M&M Harvard on Sunday, with the latter also needing a win to maintain its hopes of avoiding the drop.
The Parkites on the other hand, ended their stay with 17 points from 20 matches, three more than already relegated, Valtrin which has 14 points and a match left against St Francois to play on Sunday.
Next season, the Parkites will return to the Northern Football Association Premier Division while Valtrin goes back to Eastern Football Association play. They will be joined by either St Francois Nationals (19 points), M&M Harvard (20 points) or Club Sando (21 points)
St Francois also has a match versus Joe Public before the Disciplinary Committee which may determine whether the Belmont-based club will be relegated.
Next season, three clubs will be relegated to their association leagues while the top two teams in the T&T Football Federation Champion of Champions competition, which takes in January, will be promoted.
