Kareem “Scoobie” Freitas and Akell Gilbert netted first-half goals as Northern Football Association champions West Side Stars blanked Matura Re-United 2-0 for their third straight win in the T&T Football Federation National Super League Qualifying Tournament on Saturday.
Freitas fired Stars ahead in the 18th minute with his fourth goal in three matches while Gilbert added the other six minutes before the half in their top-of-the-table clash.
With the win, Stars improved to maximum nine points from three matches and need only one more win to cement promotion to the bmobile National Super League.
Matura remained on four points and was joined by Eagles United and Real Maracas. Eagles got two late goals from Jamal Wiggins, an 80th minute penalty and Jamal Lucas in the 89th to shut out Siparia Spurs at the Siparia Recreation Ground.
Real Maracas made the journey to the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet and came away with a 1-0 result over St Clair Coaching School and three points courtesy a 12th minute Bryan Hinds strike.
