Glen Walker found the winner in the dying minutes to give WASA a 2-1 win over 1976 FC Phoenix in the last quarterfinal knock out fixture in the blink/bmobile National Super League on Thursday. The match was played at the WASA Ground, St Joseph.

The former Harvard forward Walker, came on as an 80-minute substitute and left his mark on the match. He got on the end of Jahhan Hernandez’ cross and pushed the ball comfortably past Jeffrey Delpeche in Phoenix’s goal. After a goalless first half, WASA came out the stronger team and took the lead in the 56th minute when Kerry Noray took a chance and netted from a controlled shot in the box. Dominique Kerr then levelled for Phoenix from the penalty spot in the 68th minute following a handball from another former Harvard player, Damien Pompey in the 68th.

The match seemed to be heading for direct penalties which would have been the verdict after regulation time, had it not been for the late surge and the tactical awareness from the WASA team. On Wednesday, the three other quarterfinals were played. Similar to the WASA win, bmobile Joe Public left it late but ultimately found the winner in the 88th minute with an effort from Ellis Dyett. Dyett’s goal made it 3-2 for the hosts Joe Public in a win over a stubborn West Side Super Starzs  at Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya.

West Side came from behind twice to level the score. Brent Antoine opened for Joe Public in the 14th minute but his effort was quickly cancelled out by Marcus Ashton item four minutes later. With both sides level at the half, Joe Public came out with intent and found their second goal to put them in front from Jamel Lewis in the 66th minute.

West Side pushed until again they got the equaliser, this time from Aaron Stewart in the 85th. The match also seemed to be heading to penalties, however, Dyett had the last say and gifted his side the semifinal berth. At the Plymouth Recreation Ground, Tobago, league leaders Stokely Vale smashed five unanswered goals past St Francois Nationals. Three goals were scored in the first half from Michael Carrington (13th), Dominic Mc Dougall (24th) and Tyrone Manning (39th). Manning added a second within ten minutes of the second half.

Onasi Forde then completed the rout in the 67th minute to give Stokely Vale the 5-0 home win. Club Sando were the other quarterfinal winners of the knock-out stage on Wednesday when they narrowly ousted Defence Force 1-0 at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella. Jesse Downing scored the only goal of the encounter in the 36th minute.
