Kareem Freitas netted in the 43rd minute as West Side Super Starzs completed a 1-0 away win over WASA, preventing the “waterboys” from retaking the lead in the blink/bmobile National Super League on Wednesday.
The match was played at WASA Ground, St Joseph. After a fine start to the season by WASA, results of late have been mixed and as with inconsistent performances by the team, they have endured, as in the latest test against the promoted team Super Starzs, their second loss of the campaign.
Similarly, Stokely Vale missed their chance to go back on top of the standings as they only managed a draw, 2-2 against bottom of the table St Francois Nationals.
In that fixture, which was played at the Hasely Crawford Stadium Training Ground, Mucurapo, even though they only managed a point, Stokely Vale responded well after conceding two goals.
The first goal for St Francois came within the first three minutes. Unfortunately for Stokely Vale, it was one of their own, Wendell Douglas, who guided the ball into his own net.
Marlon Bowen made it 2-0 for St Francois in the 70th minute. Rondel John pulled one back for the visitors in the 76th minute, not long before Shawn Hinds returned the favour for Stokely Vale with an own goal of his own in the 80th minute.
With an own goal a piece and an equal performance, both teams settled for the point. The seventh and eighth-placed teams in the league were also in action on the day. Eagles United travelled to Canaan, Bon Accord, to challenge 1976 FC Phoenix with both sides also sharing a point a piece with a 1-1 draw.
Jamal Lucas opened for the visitors in the 37th minute. Dominique Kerr responded for the hosts, Phoenix in the 67th minute.
The only other match scheduled for Wednesday, Defence Force versus bmobile Joe Public was postponed because of the “armymen’s” direct involvement in the ongoing state of emergency.
