Defending champions Queen’s Park Cricket Club and FC Santa Rosa sounded warnings to rivals with emphatic wins at Sunday’s Republic bank National youth League opening at Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar, Arima.

After David Robinson, Manager Wealth Services met the players, the Under-12 clash between QPCC and a South Zone Under-12 proved entertaining.

The well organized and talented QPCC boys, dealt the first blow when Logan Maingot put them in the lead in the 22nd minute which they carried into the half.

On resumption after a chat with coach Anthony Selby, the Parkites stepped up the pace and South was left gasping on all fronts, as Stephen Griffith added the second in the 32nd and Caden Trestrail in the third in the 45th to put the issue beyond all doubt.

In the second match of the double header, FC Santa Rosa edged North Zone Under-16s by 1-0 with Jashawn Thomas scoring in the 45th minute.

This was a far more even game, with the Northerners having a few chances to equalise but the ball eluding the net on each occasion.

The 2018 Republic National League competition season starts on Saturday at the Queen’s Park Savannah at 10 am for clubs in the north.
