Defence Force and their opponents United Petrotrin played Friday night's third place playoff of the Courts Pro Bowl at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium as though they had nothing to win.
Actually, in a winner-take-all tournament, they had nothing but pride to fight for. And that did not even seem to be a motivating factor.
The bright spots in an otherwise dull affair were Defence Force twice striking the woodwork with powerful shots, before Brent Garcia finally broke the deadlock in the 85th minute to give the young Petrotrin team a 1-0 victory.
Garcia collected a through ball down the centre of the penalty area, almost lost the ball when trying to go around goalkeeper Kevin Graham, and then had an unguarded net to score in.
Defence Force almost struck back in added-on time through substitute Ronald St Louis, who rocked the crossbar with a curling free-kick. Keeper Perry Martin was well beaten, but luckily St Louis' shot was just an inch too high.
Earlier, Defence Force's Christopher Durity cut in from the left and unleashed a tremendous shot from outside the penalty area which also beat keeper Martin and ricocheted off Petrotrin's crossbar.
