Bon Accord Government advanced to the semifinals of the Atlantic National Primary School Football League after they defeated San Fernando Boys Roman Catholic 2-1 in the quarterfinals of the Boys under 15 division at the Canaan/Bon Accord Recreation Grounds, Canaan yesterday.

Omarion Felix opened the scoring in the 12th minute, curling in his shot from a free kick to put San Fernando ahead. Their celebrations lasted just three minutes, however, as their opponents got a quick equaliser. After his teammate was brought down on the penalty area, little Nigel Burnett blasted his shot well past the outstretched arms of the Bon Accord custodian and put his team back in contention.

However, their plans were spoilt in the 54th minute when Jesse Jack snatched the win by scoring for his team, sending them through to the semifinals. Defenders Dane Chadband of Bon Accord and Faithman Alexis of San Fernando had excellent games for their respective teams.

Bon Accord, the 2012 national champs, will now face last year’s winners, Eastern Boys Government, in the semifinals next Thursday (November 19) in Trinidad.

Meanwhile Eastern Boys Government whipped Egypt Government 5-1 in another quarterfinal encounter, while Couva South Government thrashed Valencia Government 4-1 in another. In yesterday’s round of matches, there was also a victory for Tunapuna Boys RC who clobbered Mayaro RC 3-0.

After the matches, the Division of Education, Youth Affairs and Sport congratulated Bon Accord Government for qualifying for the semifinal round. They will now join the Bon Accord girls, who moved into the final four round on Wednesday.
