Former champion Bon Accord Government will attempt to get back on the winning trail in the Atlantic Primary School League finals at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port-of-Spain, on Wednesday.
Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Darryl Smith and Minister of Education, Anthony Garcia are expected to meet the players along with the representatives of the sponsor Atlantic. The Tobago champions of the Under-15 boys and girls category will journey to Trinidad on Tuesday evening for their encounter on Wednesday and all of Tobago will be coming to support.
Last year, Tobago teams did not fare well in the final as Whim Anglican, St Andrews Anglican and Montgomery Anglican were all beaten in their final encounters. Tunapuna Boys RC coached by their principal Terrence Ceasar became the jewel of the St George East Education District when they beat Whim Anglican in the U-12 boys final.
Eight-time national champion Arima Boys RC marched away triumphantly with the U-15 boys final when they stopped Montgomery Anglican. In the girls U-15 final, St Andrews Anglican had a heart-breaking defeat to defending champion Moruga RC.
The first match at 9.30 am on Wednesday will see the U-15 girls battling for football supremacy. The game will feature three-time national and Port-of-Spain champions, St Agnes Anglican School and Tobago champion Bon Accord. The second match will be the U-15 boys championship game between Bon Accord and “Giant Killer” Couva South Government.
The final game will feature the U-12 category with San Fernando Boy’s RC taking on Enterprise Government School.
San Fernando Boys earned a spot in the final with a 26th minute strike from Charles Forde which earned San Fernando a 1-0 win over Port-of-Spain champions Dunross Preparatory. Minister Smith attended the U-12 semifinal and was satisfied with the performance of the youngsters.
Smith said: “I am impressed with the quality of play from the youngsters, who are showing positional awareness, skill on the ball and healthy aggression in attack and defence. “The future of T&T football is bright, and we have the dedicated teachers, coaches and parents to thank for that.”
After the matches the prize distribution ceremony will begin at 12.30 pm.
