T&T captain Kenwyne Jones says he is quite pleased that there is interest growing in the national team as preparations continue for this country’s next World Cup qualifying campaign.
Jones was responding to the word of former captain Dwight Yorke showing up at the Hasely Crawford Stadium to take in Tuesday night’s friendly international against New Zealand. Yorke was in town for the weekend and opted to witness the game having said that he has a keen interest in the national team’s progress.
“It’s good that we have persons and former captains who are interested in what the teams is doing and interested in following the progress of the team,” Jones said.
Several other former national players and coaches were also at the Mucurapo venue on Tuesday to see T&T’s first appearance at home since the 2013 Concacaf Gold Cup in the United States.
“I think we have started that process of rebuilding the team and our football and trying to get things right and it’s always good to have support coming in from the outside especially from individuals who have been through it and who have played some role in our football in the past and who can still be of worth to us,” Jones said.
