Former national footballer, Akeem Adams, has been slowly recuperating from his massive September 25 heart attack in Hungary.

After losing his left leg due to an unexpected amputation last week, the 22-year old was also awakened from an artificial coma to see how his body would react to the change.

Speaking to Adams’ local representative, Dion Sosa, yesterday, he revealed that not much has changed over the past couple days. However, he admitted that the young national has been quietly coming along, and recovering in his own time.

“Well there’s no major change with his progress to date. He has been responding to his mother and doctors by nodding his head and things like that. He isn’t talking though, so he is using these means of communication to interact with those around him,” said Sosa.

Adams, who played for 28-time champions Ferencvaros Torna Club, currently has his mother Ancilla Adams, by his side.

According to Sosa, the footballer’s mother is intent on staying in Hungary until her son can hopefully be discharged from the medical facility.

“Well his mom is always at his side. She does not intend to leave Hungary without her son, so she’s expected to be here awhile. Akeem’s heart attack was a very serious one, and he is expected to take a lengthy time to recover from all that he’s been through over the past few weeks. We remain confident though, that he’ll be ok,” added Sosa.

On Tuesday, the Trinidad and Tobago senior football team squared off in a friendly and charity match against New Zealand at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, for the ailing player.

The Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) also set up the Akeem Adams Heart of a Warrior Fund, from which proceeds from the game’s earnings will go towards offsetting Adams’ overall medical costs. Also on sale at the match were specially designed jerseys with the logo “I Support Akeem”, which proceeds would also be going towards his financial aid.

With an approximate crowd presence of over 10,000 patrons at the Stadium, it was not yet revealed as to how much monies would go to the Akeem Adams Fund.
