German-based winger Evans Wise finally got the chance to work with and play under Leo Beenhakker this week as he was a late addition into the President’s Eleven team for training matches against Grenada’s Olympic team.
Wise, a member of past T&T World Cup and Gold Cup teams, took the chance with open arms as he made a second half appearance in the 4-1 win over the Grenadians on Tuesday and set up the third goal.
“I was just really happy to be back and get a chance to play with the boys again and especially under the current coach. I mean the future is still there and I felt it was important for to get involved again,” Wise said. “I felt the performance in this game was a good one and the guys are obviously going to build on this. For me personally I will try to assist in whatever way I can because we all have a part to play in this.”
Currently at German Third Division side Waldhof Mannheim, the 32-year-old Wise is hoping to make a better impression for the club next season. He is contracted to the club until 2007.
“The owners have made some heavy investments into the club but unfortunately we didn’t get the results we were hoping for. The supporters are very passionate and they have massive ambitions but I think we need to work harder and hopefully we will achieve the type of results we are looking for next season,” said Wise who is scheduled to return to Europe early next week.
