Errol McFarlaneTrinidad and Tobago striker Errol McFarlane was not a totally satisfied man despite having led the “Soca Warriors” to a 2-1 victory over Barbados saying that the team needs to do a lot more to come away tops at the end of the Digicel Caribbean Championships.

On Sunday, the Francisco Maturana coached team needs another win over Jamaica to have any chance of advancing to the semi-finals and securing a place in next year’s CONCACAF Gold Cup.

”I still think that I could do a lot more. It’s a good result all in all and we just have to build on that momentum for the Jamaica game,” McFarlane told TTFF Media.

“But while it’s good to win the game it’s important for us to lift our game because we need to do more especially on Sunday. We need to be  bit firmer on the pitch and try to take charge of the match from as early as possible.”

Commenting on playing alone up top in the first half prior to being joined in attack by Cornell Glen, McFarlane said “It’s a bit different but I have played the system with the one striker. It’s hard to say after one game because you can’t really make an assessment. I think in the second half we were able to create more chances with the two strikers  because I was able to hold up the ball and Cornell  right there to join but the one striker you have to hold it up a little bit more because the guys are a bit further away from me The coach will do his necessarily tactical changes  and I am confident ahead of the next game.”

Looking ahead to Sunday’s clash with Jamaica,  he’s eying nothing but victory.

“The guys have to go into the game knowing what type of game it’s going to be. It’s basically a grudge match. Any game between T&T and Jamaica is going to be of high intensity and a lot at stake. It’s Jamaica so we aren’t taking anything for granted . We also know that we need to win to assure ourselves of going further in the tournament.”

McFarlane also won the Digicel “Man of the Match” award for Friday’s match.

T&T head coach Francisco Maturana also knows that his team hasn’t been a convincing one so far in the tournament.

“The win was important but I cannot say that we are happy with the way we are playing. For me, I think we can do a lot better but we haven’t seen this and we have to make the improvements to feel satisfied that we doing the right think to get the results,” Maturana said.

“The next game is going to be different. Jamaica are the hosts and they will be tough. But we have played them twice this year and we were strong and good in the matches. Now we must do the same on Sunday,” he added

Skipper Aurtis Whitley, who had more effort in his game today than against Grenada, admitted that T&T haven’t found the right momentum after two matches.

“Credit to the boys for coming out and getting the victory. That’s the main thing right now because anything else would have been terrible. Same time we need to build on it and play an even better match on Sunday. There are parts of the match where we need to play harder and be more effective,” Whitley said.
