Dwight YorkeSunderland FC duo, Dwight Yorke and Kenwyne Jones are two of four overseas players who have been confirmed for the Concacaf World Cup Qualifier against Costa Rica at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Tobago on June 6.

Contacted yesterday, team manager David Muhammad, confirmed that the quartet of team captain Yorke, striker Jones, defender Dennis Lawrence (Crewe Alexandra) and goalkeeper Clayton Ince (Walsall) have been selected by coach Russell Latapy and confirmed for the match against Costa Rica.

Muhammad added that Latapy will have most of his overseas players in training from May 10 with the rest of the squad. The 40-year-old Latapy, began preparing a local squad of 22 players last week at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar.

Other European-based players expected to be called by Latapy for the Costa Rica encounter and four days later against Mexico are Jason Scotland (Swansea City), Stern John (Bristol City), Christopher Birchall (Brighton & Albion), Carlos Edwards (Sunderland FC) and Khaleem Hyland of Belgium’s Zulte Waregem. There is also a possibility that Collin Samuel of St Johnstone and defender Marvin “Dog” Andrews of Raith Rovers, who won the First Division and Second Division Scottish titles respectively on Saturday with their clubs, could be re-called for the important qualifier when their season is completed on the weekend.

The quintet of Scotland, Lawrence, John, Birchall and Ince have wrapped up their seasons in England last weekend, while Hyland is expected home by May 18. Yorke, Jones and Edwards are expected to link up with the T&T squad after their final Premiership league match of the season versus Chelsea on May 24. The match in Tobago will be the first in front of his home crowd for Yorke, at the venue named after him.

After three matches, T&T is bottom of the six-team table with two points, the same as El Salvador, who has a better goal-difference. USA leads with seven points, followed by Costa Rica (six), Honduras (four) and Mexico, with three points. The T&T squad is expected to move their training sessions to Tobago from May 23 inclusive of the overseas-based players ahead of the Costa Rica encounter.
