T&T in trainingNational Men’s Senior Team head coach Russell Latapy will have an opportunity to evaluate the progress of his current squad members as well as observe the other high performers of the T&T Pro League when the Local national squad takes on a Pro League Eleven at the Hasely Crawford Stadium from 6pm on Tuesday.

The game requested by Latapy will fall into a schedule of training matches under the national team program for 2010 ahead of the upcoming Digicel Caribbean Championships scheduled for Martinque in November.

Prior to that T&T will contest a preliminary qualifying group in Grenada from October 30 which will also include two other countries yet to be determined out of another playoff.

Among the players in the T&T squad for tomorrow will be bMobile Joe Public striker Kerry Baptiste, top Defence Force marksman Devon Jorsling, Caledonia AIA defender Daneil Cyrus, Public’s Hayden Tinto and Trent Noel, Densill Theobald and W Connection midfielder Clyde Leon who skippered the team in the recent 2-0 loss to Chile in Iquique.

Team manager David Muhammad said the fixture is part of the overall team preparation program.

“The request for the game was made by the head coach Russell Latapy because he wanted the opportunity to again have a look at his players based locally at this point of the season where the majority if not all the players are fully engaged in the current T&T Pro League season,” Muhammad told TTFF Media.

“We expect to  see the National Team in international action in the not too distant future but at the same time we thought it would be fitting to see our  current squad in action against what is expected to be a reasonably strong team comprising of some of the progressive and rising talent here in the T&T Pro League.”

The Pro League team will be coached by Defence Force’s Ross Russell. Admission is open to the public.

Defence Force head coach Ross Russell has accepted a special assignment to select at Pro League-XI to tackle the Trinidad and Tobago Senior Team on Tuesday afternoon at the Hasely Crawford Stadium from 6pm.

Russell was offered the assignment last Thursday by the TT Pro League to fit the role of coach as his side Defence Force leads the current Digicel Pro League standings.

The request for a Pro League-XI to tackle the T&T National Football Team came from head coach Russell Latapy as he continues to evaluate his team ahead of the upcoming Digicel Caribbean Championships scheduled for Martinque in November.

Prior to that T&T will contest a preliminary qualifying group in Grenada from October 30 which will also include two other countries yet to be determined out of another playoff.

Latapy will also use the opportunity to observe the other high performers of the TT Pro League. Meantime the Pro League-XI head coach Ross Russell means business despite having little time to select his bunch.

“Any team that I’m coaching, will be coached to win,” said the Defence Force head coach. “I was given the task on Friday to select a squad and although I didn’t really have a chance to look at players, I will have a squad ready.

“Some of the players that I selected are unfit, so it’s a lot of cutting and pasting at the moment. It’s not really an all-star team because there wasn’t time to screen for the top available players, but I’m hoping that the guys selected will see this as an opportunity to impress the T&T national coaching staff.”

Joe Public’s defender Carlyle Mitchell, St. Ann’s Rangers’ midfielder Kwame Wiltshire and Caledonia AIA midfiedler Ryan Stewart are some of the players unavailable to Russell because of injuries.

Some of the TT Pro League-XI invited players are goalkeepers Kevin Graham (Defence Force) and Cleon John (San Juan Jabloteh), Corey Rivers (Defence Force), Rawle Fletcher (Defence Force), Noel Williams (San Juan Jabloteh), Joel Russell (San Juan Jabloteh), Sean Narcis (Defence Force), Coneal Thomas (Ma Pau SC), Jerwyn Balthazar (Defence Force), Kevin Molino (Ma Pau SC), Lester Peltier (Ma Pau SC), Odelle Armstrong (St. Ann’s Rangers) and Errol McFarlane (North East Stars).

“We expect to see the National Team in international action in the not too distant future but at the same time we thought it would be fitting to see our current squad in action against what is expected to be a reasonably strong team comprising of some of the progressive and rising talent here in the TT Pro League,” said the T&T team manager David Muhammed in a TTFF press release.
