Trinidad and Tobago’s next match is against Jamaica on February 20 in the first game of the four-team Digicel Caribbean Cup Finals. And the “Warriors” will resume preparations as early as Saturday morning with a training session at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

Coach Bertille St Clair will have more of a home-based team with several of the overseas pros going back to their respective clubs. Glasgow Rangers defender Marvin Andrews and Wrexham midfielder Carlos Edwards returned to London on Wednesday night while Dundee’s Brent Sancho, Coventry City striker Stern John, Crewe Alexandra goalie Clayton Ince and Portsmouth’s Shaka Hislop are all scheduled out before the weekend. Southampton utility player Kenwyne Jones leaves on Sunday.

Among the players called for training on Saturday include National Under 20 duo Keon Daniel and Hayden Tinto while midfielder Arnold Dwarika, now recovered from injury, has also been called up.

Meantime, John was high in praise of his teammates but came down on his own performance against the United States.

He had at least three worthwhile chances on goal, also playing a part in the goal, pressuring goalie Kasey Keller to allow Angus Eve’s ball to enter the goal. The goal was officially credited to Eve.

“The team played well and I think that’s a good sign because the boys all showed that desire to do well. It wasn’t a good game for me, not because I didn’t score but overall I didn’t have a good time. I just didn’t get going because normally I would have put away the chances I got.”

He feels that T&T can without a doubt get results in their upcoming World Cup qualifiers away to Guatemala on March 26 and home to Costa Rica on March 30.

“This game showed that the US is a beatable team and maybe if we had converted our chances in the first half too, things may have been different. We definitely have showed ourselves up good for the rest of matches to come. The fans also came out and gave us good support and those who didn’t believe in us going into this game maybe will see things differently now,” John said.
