Maple Leaf International maintained its unbeaten run in the Girls Secondary Schools’ Football League yesterday, as St Joseph’s Convent succumbed to a disappointing defeat. St Joseph’s defence was penetrated by Carly Coutt, Dominique Campbell and Brianna Winford who were on target. The 3-0 victory puts Maple Leaf in second place, two points behind defending North Zone champ, Providence Girls’, with the deciding battle between the two to be played on Sunday, when they meet at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port-of-Spain. Providence, meanwhile, made light work of Blanchisseuse, putting a 5-1 thumping on them, as Akesha De La Rosa netted a hat-trick to keep her team at the top.

Providence won the BGTT SSFL Girls North Zone Intercol title yesterday, with a 3-0 win over 2007 champions Malick at the QRC grounds. Captain Stephanie Woo Ling scored a goal in each half to lead her side to the impressive victory. It was the third title for Providence in four years.

Debe High school will not field a full-strength team when it takes on Fyzabad Anglican at home when competition in the girls’ edition of the 2009 Secondary School’s Football League (SSFL) kicks off today. The three-time South Zone and 2008 SSFL champs will be without five players: Under-20 captain, Mariah Shade, Stephanie Bean and Under-17 talents Kayla Taylor, Linfah Jones, and Patrice Vincent. Coach Arnold Murphy is still confident of a win and believes that even without the players his team will start positively in the competition.
