BISHOP’S High School (BHS) is now the Tobago Girls Intercol Football Champion for the very first time after they defeated Scarborough Secondary 3-2 in a highly entertaining match at the Dwight Yorke stadium yesterday.

Bishop’s Kristen Julien opened the scoring in the tenth minute of the game to send the Bishop’s supporters in a frenzy. With sustained pressure on the defence of Scarborough Secondary, the Bishop’s girls — in their traditional maroon and white uniform — made it clear that they wanted the title Roxborough Secondary School held for the past two years. In the 34th minute, Julien once again put the ball past Scarborough goalkeeper, Aliyah Charles, and into the net to double her tally and the score.

With a two goal cushion, Bishop’s were in the driver seat with the halftime approaching. But Scarborough started to settle down and were rewarded before the half when Cherise Roberts gave their supporters a goal to celebrate and renewed hope for the intermission.

Twenty minutes after the resumption, although Bishop’s had looked the more likely to score, Roberts scored again to even the game at 2-2 and leave all to play for in the last 20 minutes of the game.

The deciding goal came against the run of play with a long range effort from April Ewing flying over Scarborough goalkeeper Charles to send the Bishop’s supporters wild with delight in the 70th minute. Scarborough attacked relentingly in the remaining minutes of the game but could not add to their goal tally as Bishop’s held firm till the final whistle.

They will now move onto the National Girls Intercol Competition.
