Less than two weeks after scoring a double to drop St Augustine Secondary out of the Big-Four competition, national youth midfielder Kayla Taylor scored another two goals to land the South champions the BGTT/ First Citizens Trinidad InterCol trophy, yesterday.

Taylor came on as a substitute in the second half, before scoring in the 54th and 67th minutes, to hand the country's most dominant force in girls' football, the second biggest trophy on the calendar.

The result saw Debe complete its 13th straight victory since the season began. So far, it has picked up the South Zone league title, the Big-Four, and now the Trinidad InterCol title.

Debe will be seeking to complete a perfect season, when it takes on Tobago champions Bishiop's High, in the National InterCol final. The match will kick off at 3 pm, at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella.

NATIONAL forward Kayla Taylor battled with a shoulder injury to carry her team home with two second half goals in the Coco Cola Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Trinidad Girls final at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium on Monday.

Taylor who injured her shoulder against Bishop’s of Tobago in the Big Five final which Debe won 4-1, shook off the injury to give her team the win after a goalless first half. The star forward took advantage of a defensive blunder to put her team 1-0 up midway in the second half, before slotting home a penalty to seal the win.

It is the second win for the South zone champions who defeated St Augustine Secondary “Gustine” in the Big Five quarter-final clash.

This marks the fourth title for Debe this season after they won the South Zone League and Intercol titles along with the big five and now the Trinidad Intercol. They will no doubt be going after their fifth title the National Intercol when they face Tobago Intercol champions Bishop’s in the final tomorrow.

After the match Debe’s head coach Arnold Murphy heaped praises on Taylor for her performance. “All the credit must go to Kayla for the win today. She single handedly took care of St Augustine. We did not play her in the first half due to the shoulder injury she sustained in the big five final against Bishop’s. However, when she came on in the second half she got into her own and did the damage for us,” said Murphy.

The Debe coach also credited the “Green Machine” girls for their efforts. “St Augustine played well in the first half giving us some pressure, however, they had no answer for Kayla in the second half,” said the coach.

Meanwhile Gustine’s coach Desiree Sargeant said her girls did very well this time round. “We played a much better match this time and we should have held a one nil lead in the first half, however, the post denied us. We also had another chance to score but it did not happen for us.

When Kayla Taylor came on in the second half she gave them the lead mid way with a first time shot, before she converted a penalty to get the win,” said the coach.

Sargeant said nothing can be taken away from Debe as they played like they normally do and she wishes them the best in the National final tomorrow.
