The second round of the Secondary Schoolgirl’s Football League kicks off today, but respective zonal winners seem to be more or less decided with only the first round of action completed. In the North Zone, Maple Leaf International and St Joseph’s Convent gave away opportunities to dethrone defending champion, Providence, when both suffered defeats at the feet of the Belmont Girls.

As a result, Providence stayed five points clear atop the standings ahead of Maple Leaf, making it difficult for the latter to catch the front-runner. In its current form, it seems unlikely that Providence will surrender as much as five points in the round. The situation is the same in the South and East Zones, as Debe High (South) and Toco Secondary (East) remain unbeaten and out of reach of the chasing pack.

Both teams are ahead by six points and judging by their first round domination, there will be no surprises until the national finals and InterCol. In Tobago, defending champion Signal Hill may have enough time to make a comeback, having lost just one match and trailing by three points to Roxborough, which has maximum nine points. The two will meet today at Roxborough, in a battle that Signal Hill will hope to win in order to keep its title defence alive.
