Today will see a repeat of the North Zone Secondary School Football League final, when St Joseph’s Convent comes up against North Zone winner, Providence Girls’ College in the BGTT Girls InterCol North/East final at St Joseph’s Convent Grounds from 3.45 pm. Convent, though proving to be a strong unit throughout the SSFL season, has been unable to get past Providence on the two encounters that the teams have met, resulting in Providence copping the North Zone for a second consecutive year, while it settled for second place.
Having a full team has been an issue for the South Zone champion this season, as it boasts of five national players, three U-17s and two 20s. “That’s a good thing,” Auguste said on having five of his players on the national team, but said that it could also be a curse. “We don’t want to seem selfish, national duty always comes first, but it’s kind of like you’re being punished for doing well, because the team will suffer, although we have players that can step in.” Debe will meet Holy Faith Convent Penal today at Guaracarra Park, Point-a-Pierre from 4 pm in the second match of a double header at that venue. In the first match, Fyzabad Anglican will face Point Fortin East Secondary from 2 pm. The winner of each respective match will play each other in the South Zone final, in order to decide who will face the victor in the North/East final.
