Chaguanas North Secondary were the first team to exit the Coca Cola national InterCol competition when they were whipped 4-0 by Speyside Secondary at Shaw Park, Tobago yesterday in a rainy quarter-final.

The Central Zone champs limped out of the competition after conceding a hat-trick to Brandon Benjamin in the Speyside forward line, including a brilliant second half item—and a stoppage time goal by substitute Leren Davidson that put paid to their ambitions.

Chaguanas lost the plot in two first half minutes, and Benjamin added his third just after the half to assure Speyside’s spot in Friday’s semi-finals, where they will face Fatima College in the second match of a doubleheader at Hasely Crawford Stadium, from 5.30 p.m.

Friday’s first match, between East champions St Augustine Secondary and Princes Town West, the South Zone winners, kicks off at 3.30 p.m.

After 20 minutes Speyside were two goals to the good, mostly due to the slow pace of play by their opponents. In the 17th Benjamin was swift, and deadly, on the counter-attack, finishing up a quick Speyside break with a close range finish that left goalkeeper Jourvel Guadeloupe stranded, then two minutes later he put a ball past Guadeloupe that should have been saved.

The third goal came in the 49th, a sideways effort from Benjamin with his back partially to goal, which left Guadeloupe powerless to stop the shot. Davidson finished things at the end to their loud cheers of Scarborough fans.
