ST ANTHONY’S College climbed to the top of the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Premier Division points standings as they defeated St Benedict’s College 4-1 in their opening round fixture in Debe yesterday.

Despite taking the early lead through Keon Boney in the fifth minute, St. Benedict’s could not handle the onslaught from the St Anthony’s “Tigers”. Yeven Beckles equalised in the 19th minute to carry both teams to the half with the scores level 1-1.

However, after the break, the Tigers unleashed their attack with the second goal coming from Halie Beckles in the 49th. A 60th minute goal from Tyrese Bailey made it 3-1 and Jodel Browne sealed the victory in the 71st minute.

Fyzabad Secondary also had a huge victory as they defeated Trinity Moka 3-1 at home. Fyzabad’s Sharkell Louisoin scored the only goal of the first half in the 10th minute.

Natini Jones added Fyzo’s second goal in the 53rd minute and the game looked to be in total control by southerners. Seleem Henry pulled one back for the visitors in the 61st minute, however, it was quickly cancelled out as Mourice Dick responded with a goal of his own in the 62nd.

Presentation College San Fernando drew 2-2 with San Juan North at the Guaracara Park in Pointe-a-Pierre. Jordan Riley opened the scoring for Pres Sando in the second. San Juan then drew level in the 16th minute as Ronaldo Boyce found the back of the net.

The visitors went ahead in the 41st minute as Brandon Samper gave them a 2-1 lead to end the half.

Pres’ Barnell Hopedales made sure the hosts finished the match with a point as he leveled the scores in the 57th minute.

Speyside defeated Queen’s Royal College (QRC) 2-0 in Tobago while Trinity East drew 1-1 with Signal Hill in Trincity. The match between St Mary’s and St Augustine Secondary did not play due to a waterlogged St Mary’s Ground.

FYZABAD SECONDARY and St Anthony’s College steered their teams to comfortable victories as action in the Shell/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League Premier Division continued yesterday.

The heavy rains and subsequent flooding in the Port of Spain area affected one fixture -- the St Mary’s/St Augustine match, scheduled for Serpentine Road, which was postponed due to a waterlogged field.

But the five other matches kicked off, yielding three victories and two draws.

Down South, “Fyzo” took care of business against Trinity College Moka with a 3-1 result.

There, Sharkeel Louison sent coach Brian Williams’ team into the lead in the 10th minute. Trinity’s Saleem Henry converted a penalty in the 51st but it was a short-lived 1-1 scoreline, as Ntinni Jones gave Fyzabad the go-ahead goal one minute later. Maurice Dick rounded out the scoring for the winners.
