Mucurapo captain Kevin Molino and Debe High School’s Mariah Shade were named Male and Female Footballers of the Year respectively, at the Secondary Schools Football League’s annual award ceremony at the Rudranath Capildeo Learning and Resource Centre in Couva on Friday.
“It’s a good feeling for me. I set a goal and achieved it.” He said, “We came out and worked as a team together.” As part of his prize, Molino will travel to Portugal where he will gain experience with a first division club. Shade, whose school was the BGT&T National Girls Champion, also commended her team for its group effort. “One thing that is positive about us is our team spirit. We gel together and we’re just like one big family.” She said.
In the night’s feature address, Constantine encouraged the students to make the most of their opportunities at this stage in life. “Each of you can use sport, and particularly football to improve your lot in life. However, this requires you to work harder and to place equal focus on your academics and your social development.” He said, “Your decisions now will either positively or negatively impact your future and that of our nation.” Meanwhile, the Veteran’s Football Foundation honoured Glenford Thomas and Leo Braffet for their contributions to local football.
